I’ve been thinking a lot about Saturday’s race and what I could have done differently. Two things come to my mind most immediately.
- At the top of Jack Rabbit trail, I should have just taken off my shoes and socks and ran through the big mud “lake”. I would have saved at least 10-15 minutes not having to wait for people to slowly walk along the embankment and spend time cleaning my cleats off. Would have saved time at the first stop too, not having to clean my cleats.
- Eat while riding. I should have spent less time at stop #2 – just long enough to take a bathroom break and re-water. I should have eaten my solid foods (and only half of it at that) while riding. I was going slow enough that eating while riding wouldn’t have been impossible.
Anyways, I guess this is why there’s a next year.
